Possibilities

Based on Wiskawa Szymborska
Written during Covid 19

I prefer sunrises
The promise of a new groundhog day

I prefer freshly mown lawns
I prefer newly harvested paddocks
The neat stacks of fat round bales

I prefer autumn colours
I prefer bright yellow daisies
I prefer the piwakawaka flitting about

I prefer the smell of freshly baked bread
Yes, we had yeast
I prefer stained worn recipes

I prefer the quiet
But not in supermarket queues

I prefer mother earth having a chance to recover

I prefer to be informed
To be a global citizen
To mourn with those that mourn

I prefer a chance to reflect
I choose to receive this gift of time
