Flying Nun connects UNESCO Creative Cities

At the UNESCO Creative Cities Network meeting in Kanazawa, Japan, the music of Flying Nun and Xpressway provided a creative connection between Dunedin, Iowa City and Mannheim.

Dunedin's UNESCO City of Literature bid proposed a diverse and inclusive definition of literature that encompassed lyrics. Delegates from Iowa City (Literature) and Mannheim (Music) both spoke of their longstanding enthusiasm for the music of Flying Nun and Xpressway.

AudioCulture's Steven Shaw presented Ian Dalziel's original artwork for the Flying Nun "winged eyeball" to the Hocken Collections, who host the Flying Nun Records archive, on 14 May 2015. The work was donated by Warwick Eade.

AudioCulture panelist Scott Muir said that “the opportunities of the Creative Cities Network resonate well with the global appreciation and love held for Dunedin's songsmiths.”
