Writers on Janet Frame event
Posted: Monday Aug 26, 2024
At an event in Oamaru on Saturday, a group of prominent authors gathered to discuss Janet Frame's writing and its influence in their lives.
They each read a passage from Frame and described how it resonated with them. Notably a couple of them explored the significance of Frame's working class origins and how that has been often overlooked.
A thoroughly worthwhile and fitting occasion to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Frame's birth. The commentaries and conversations between the panellists were absorbing.
The free event was organised by the Janet Frame House Trust and took place at Waitaki Girls' High School. Janet Frame attended WGHS and was a prefect in 1942 (her name is still recorded on the wall of the auditorium!)
