Murals for Bath St Pump Surround – Expression of Interest
Posted: Friday Feb 19, 2021
This Opportunity
As part of the 3 Waters project to renew an existing watercourse main in Bath St, a generator and pump have been temporarily installed where Bath St meets lower Stuart St. This is intended to be in situ for up to 12 months and is currently surrounded by a plywood enclosure.
Making this functional construction more attractive will hopefully create a positive visual impact on the surrounding streetscape for businesses and members of the public using the space.
Role and Budget
We are looking for an artist to create and apply a mural onto the plywood shell. The enclosure will have a wall garden installed on its back wall (facing The Swan) and the remaining surfaces are free to be decorated.
Given the location and small scale, the project team is looking for simple designs with abstracted forms, clean lines, limited colour palettes, rather than finely detailed, complex pictures.
Other media (eg: paste-ups, tape installations) will be considered but must be durable enough to last the 12-month period, or able to be easily and quickly replaced by the artist when requested.
The budget for this work is $3,500 (ex GST), which is to include design, application, and materials. Submissions are welcome from individuals or groups. It is expected that this work will take place in late March/early April (exact dates to be negotiated with the project team).
