Posted: Tuesday Sep 22, 2020
Registrations open: now till 27 November
Dear Fringe Artists.
It been a tough year for all of us - especially you. But despite everything, we're very proud to announce the opening of registrations for the 2021 Dunedin Fringe Festival.
We've made some changes for next year and would love to hear your thoughts about them (link to artists' survey at bottom of email)
To our friends in other countries, we'll miss hosting you here in Ōtepoti in person but hope you can participate in other ways.
Read on for more details, but if you're here in Aotearoa and have a project in the pipeline already, here's the link to the Registration Guide or to register.
Artists in NZ:
- We're offering free registration during September. There are a few conditions - see the guide for details. You heard right - FREE REGISTRATION!!!
- We're also offering Fringe Artist Grants. $35,000 will be distributed to events that meet two (or more) of the following criteria: Innovation, Experimentation, Presentation, Content Diversity, Inclusion, Access, Outlying communities, COVID resilience. This funding is possible thanks to CNZ - see our website for more info after 23rd September.
- There is no insider charge on advance sale tickets in 2021. This means you get to keep 100% of the ticket sale price.
- Aunty Rona is definitely not invited to this party. But you should plan for various scenarios and contingencies - we are.
Artists outside NZ or anyone with a project that can be delivered virtually:
Just in case you haven't heard, NZ boarders are closed to everyone except citizens and people with residency. Digital performance has been something of a lifeline for many in the creative sector and can be roughly be broken down into the following types:
1. A streamed live performance (no/minimal live audience), with a set start time.
2. An archived/pre-recorded event available within certain dates.
3. An event performed for a live audience which is also livestreamed. This has the advantage of being COVID resistant ie if restrictions on gathering are put in place, you can adjust and proceed.
While digital delivery is not right for everyone, Dunedin Fringe is committed to developing a platform for artists who choose to work this way. We'd like to hear from you: Email Gareth director@dunedinfringe.nz or fill in the survey (link below)
Beam Me In Fringe?
What if a venue was set up to receive your live performance from where ever you are in the world. And your performance was beamed in and projected to a live audience - and you could see/hear them in real time. With a supporting cast of live performers to supplement the event and cover in case of technical difficulties. Ok, we're just spitballing here but if this sounds like your jam then let us know. We are serious about developing new ways working and supporting our artists. This includes watching developments and considering the best way to monetise digital content.
