Call for UNESCO City of Literature 2021 Wonju Residency

The South-Korean City of Literature Wonju and Toji Cultural Center are organising their first Residency program in the autumn of 2021. All writers of from the Cities of Literature are now able to apply for a place. Deadline for applications is on the 6th of June, and the winner will be announced on June 18th.

The Residnecy will be held in the Toji Cultural Center, starting on the 1st of September. The residency will last up to 8 weeks. Please note that the visitor is also required to spend a two-week self quaranteen in Korea before strating the program, so the winner will be asked to arrive already on the 18th of August. 

Thus maximum length of the trip can be up to 10 weeks.This residency includes the following benefits:

- Airplane tickets (for the round-about trip)

- Lodging and meals during the quaranteen (provided by Wonju City)

- Transportation for official purposes

- Place of residency: Toji Cultural Center

- Meals made from organic ingredients in the cafeteria of Toji Cultural Center (Exception; only the lunch will be provided on Saturdays, and during public holidays no prepared meals will be provided)

- Writing Room: One of Rooms for Writers at Toji Cultural Centre

How to apply:

Please send your application via email to dewkorea@korea.kr no later than the 6th of June. The application should include answers to the following questions:

1) Let us know about yourself

2) Let us know about your literary works, achievements, awards, etc

3) Let us know about your literary world 

4) Tell us about why you would like to come to Wonju and stay in Toji Cultural Centre

5) Please tell us about how your literary world is or can be connected to Wonju. 

Portfolio is optional.

Please note that you can write no more than one (1) A4 page for each of these numbered points.

Requirements for the applicants:

- Connection to a City of Literature

- Language skills: B2 -level command of the English language
