The theme of the second issue revolves around the power of "Dreams"
Dreaming is a powerful practice for bringing about change, and Pasefika peoples have been dreaming for generations. Stories have always been a powerful vehicle for dreaming, with imaginations of worlds new and old to be found in our traditions of oration, song, dance, and so much more. Like these traditions, the tradition of dreaming is also one that our ancestors have passed on to us, and we have the responsibility of continuing its practice for generations to come. And it is now more than ever that we must dare to dream.
We must dare to dream in the face of rampant violence against our women and children; issues of well-being that take our people too soon; and more horrific legacies of colonialism that live on in an ongoing genocide in West Papua, destructive US military developments in the North Pacific, and a climate crisis that threatens our very being. Amidst all of this, our stories have kept alive our dreams for who we are and who we want to become. So with this call, we invite you to share your stories. Will you dream with us?
For this issue’s theme, the following are some questions that might be useful to consider. However, please feel free to dream beyond them.
What dreams do we have for ourselves, our families, our communities, and beyond? What dreams do (or did) our families and/or your ancestors have?
What circumstances in the past, present, and/or future challenge our dreams? What challenges the ability to even begin to dream them? Alternatively, what makes it possible for us to start dreaming?
What becomes possible when we are allowed to dream without limitation? What is at stake when we are stopped — or when we stop ourselves — from dreaming?
