Call for expressions of interest - major grant funding

The New Zealand National Commission for UNESCO is inviting expressions of interest (EOI) for major grant funding from organisations with projects, events, programmes or initiatives that reflect our mission:

“Connecting Aotearoa-New Zealand to UNESCO and the world by the fostering and sharing of ideas; and contributing to building the knowledge and capabilities needed to ensure a better future for all.”

Grants will be worth between $10,000 and $40,000. Your proposal must align with at least one of the National Commission’s following strategic priorities:

• Providing a catalyst for New Zealanders to engage in life-long learning and to be innovative and responsible global citizens
• Protecting and celebrating New Zealand’s taonga past, present and future by connecting our unique indigenous culture, natural heritage and communities with national and international communities
  
• Nurturing and connecting diverse forms of knowledge based on scientific evidence, traditional knowledge and intercultural dialogue to enhance decision making and foster mutual understanding
  
• Promoting access to information and knowledge that contributes to building respect for justice, law, human rights and fundamental freedoms.
  

As UNESCO is an organisation of ‘ideas’, we are seeking projects that demonstrate innovation and new ways of working. We are looking to fund new initiatives or new components of existing initiatives which have the potential to lead to positive long-term change at a national or regional level. In light of the 15 March terrorist attacks in Christchurch, particular consideration will be given to initiatives that reinforce the core UNESCO values of equality, diversity and democracy.

We are inviting expressions of interest (EOI), which is a mandatory step in the process, by 5pm, 18 June. All applicants will be notified of the outcome of the EOI process by 2 July via email. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to submit a full application, which will be due by 5pm, 23 July.

Minor grant funding is also available for amounts under $5,000. The National Commission will be accepting applications throughout the year; however you must leave at least six weeks between your application and your activity.
