Hone Tuwhare was born in Kaikohe, Northland in 1922 and went on to become New Zealand’s pre-eminent Māori poet.
Tuwhare came to Dunedin when he was awarded the Robert Burns Fellowship in 1969 and remained here until his death in 2008.
