Landfall announces new reviews editor

Posted: Wednesday Jul 01, 2020

We are delighted to welcome Michelle Elvy to the Landfall team in the newly created role of reviews editor. She will curate the book reviews both for the print editions of Landfall, and for Landfall Review Online.

Elvy, originally from the United States, arrived in New Zealand in 2008 and now makes her home in Dunedin. As well as being a writer and manuscript assessor, she also edits at Flash Frontier: An adventure in short fiction and chairs National Flash Fiction Day, and is assistant editor for the Best Small Fictions series. In 2018 she co-edited Bonsai: Best small stories from Aotearoa New Zealand (Canterbury University Press), and she was reviews editor of takahē from 2019 to 2020.

Being appointed to the new role at Landfall is an honour, Elvy says.

‘I look forward to the challenge as well as the work that will go into supporting Landfall's tradition of bringing critical reviews and enlightened conversation around new books to a diverse reading audience.’

Emma Neale will continue as Landfall editor, focusing on the creative content in the publication.

‘I’m delighted to have a fresh perspective on the Landfall review bookshelves and to be working with the high-energy Michelle Elvy,’ Neale says. ‘I am also hoping that splitting the role means both more time to read all the creative submissions that pour in to Landfall, and more time for some other projects.’
