Dunedin Fringe Festival - Art at Heart: Kids Exhibition

March 17th — 23rd, 2025

63 Hanover Street, Dunedin

Small people can have big feelings ... and big creativity too! A showcase of artwork themed around emotion by Ōtepoti kids.

Joy? Anxiety? Frustration? Contentment? Courage? Small people can have big feelings ... and big creativity too!

This exhibition is organised by Sylvie Wardell (age 11), who wanted to show adults that just because we are small, doesn't mean we think small or feel small.

She believes that "some people think that because we are young our work is messy, or unreadable, or not relatable. But I feel like if we showcase our artwork and how much effort we put into things, we can show people what we mean, so they can understand us better."

Sylvie picked the theme of 'big feelings' and invited children ages 0 to 13 from around Ōtepoti Dunedin to respond in any medium they wanted. A panel of judges were also invited to award a variety of prizes for different categories.

The artworks are displayed around the Hanover Street venue. Visitors coming to view the art will also have a chance to participate themselves on a large shared canvas.
