In conversation with Mataaho Collective: Reflections on Takapau at 60th Venice Biennale

Thursday, 24th October 2024 5:30 PM - 6:30 PM

FREE in the DPAG Auditorium

Mataaho will share insights into their experience of exhibiting Takapau, a large-scale installation using polyester reflective truck strops inspired by whāriki techniques and patterns, at the 2024 Venice Biennale. Takapau has been described as a feat of engineering and earned Mataaho a Golden Lion award for Best Participant amongst hundreds of other participants at the biennale.

Members of the Mataaho Collective, Erena Baker Arapere (Te Ātiawa ki Whakarongotai, Ngāti Toa Rangatira), Sarah Hudson (Ngāti Awa, Ngāi Tūhoe, Ngāti Pūkeko), Bridget Reweti (Ngāti Ranginui, Ngāi Te Rangi) and Terri Te Tau (Rangitāne ki Wairarapa), are participating in a residency programme at DPAG as the Aotearoa Visiting Artist for 2025.

This talk will be Q&A style in conversation with DPAG Curator Lucy Hammonds.
